Small parts doing an important job
Every time it rains, your gutters collect water from the whole roof and the downpipes carry it to the drains. When a gutter leaks, sags or overflows, that water runs down the brickwork instead, and over time it can cause damp patches, stained walls and damage to the pointing.
Old cast iron and early plastic gutters are a common sight on North East houses. Replacing them in modern uPVC fixes leaks and gives the house a neater finish.
Signs your gutters need replacing
- Water dripping from joints, or pouring over the edge in heavy rain.
- Sagging lengths that hold standing water.
- Green or dark streaks on the brickwork below.
- Cracked or rusted cast iron.
Choosing a gutter
Half round is the most common shape and suits most homes. Square-line gutters look crisp on modern houses, and ogee profiles suit older properties with a more decorative edge. Deep-flow gutters carry more water, which helps on big or steep roofs.
Fitted to the right fall
A gutter needs a slight slope towards its outlet, or water sits in it. We set the brackets to the right fall, joint every length properly and connect the downpipes to your existing drains.
Fascias at the same time
If the timber fascia behind your gutter is rotten, new gutters won’t stay fixed for long. It’s usually worth doing both together, see fascias and soffits.

Can you replace guttering without replacing the fascias?
Yes, if the fascias are sound. If they’re rotten, we’d recommend replacing them together, because the gutter brackets fix into the fascia.
Do you clean gutters?
We fit new guttering rather than offering a regular cleaning service. If yours keep blocking, we can look at whether the gutter size or outlet positions are the problem.
Can you replace cast iron gutters?
Yes. We can replace cast iron with uPVC in a similar profile, which is lighter and won’t rust.
